Successfully completes " Proposals for the Earh Summit Río + 20: Evaluation of the challengues of coastal areas in the XXI century "
The primary objective of this workshop was to develop a document setting out the consensus could be reached at coastal areas and deliver these results to the Peruvian Government as a contribution to its position for the Rio +20 summit.
The topics covered in these sessions were:
- Climate Change and its implications for the marine and coastal areas
- Loss of habitat and biodiversity as a result of an accelerated industrial development, urban and lack of an adequate legal framework
- Management with an Ecosystem Based Management approach, sustainability and food security, resource use and national fisheries issues including the scale and out at sea
- Sustainable development of aquaculture as an alternative to capture fisheries
- Infrastructure development in the coastal marine area: oil, ports and industrial plants
This effort done in coordination with the international group of Coastal Zones:21 st Century Challenges conformed by more of 100 universities and institutions of research from more than 30 countries.
The proposals discussed during the workshop include recommendations for the Ministry of Produccion and Enviroment for the National Biodiversity Day to be held on May 22nd.
